From Samer, Care 2 Action Alerts:
Thanks to a courageous Canadian Senator, Marc Harb, there is now a Bill to end Canada's commercial seal hunt, which is expected to take the lives of more than 250,000 baby seals this year alone. Support the historic Bill to stop the hunt! » Imagine a world in which there are no more baby seals hooked and dragged onto boats while still conscious. No more seals as young as three weeks old skinned alive. No more needless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seals each year. With the proposed seal product ban in the EU and Russia's recent ban on hunting harp seals less than a year old, this dream can soon be made a reality. The momentum to end Canada's commercial seal hunt has never been stronger. Senator Harb wants to fill the Senate with messages of support for his Bill. Please sign the petition today! » Take action link: http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFlLC/zjYY/xoDZ

Peace, kids.

Hi Lisa
This has always sickened me! I commend that Senator but since the natives say it is their main food source and claim it it as a right I would expect it to continue.

What a shame. *sigh*

Average Patriot--Actually, most natives do NOT approve of the seal hunt.In fact, they are sickened at the barbaric-ness.The "hunt" is driven by money, and apathy, too.
Brother Tim--Don't despair, friend. We shall overcome!

I cry when I think of those dear fluffy little baby seals being subjected to this. It's one of those things you hear about that you just can't believe because of the level of brutality. I am already involved in trying to stop it. It is sickening.

I hope, you won't mind me commenting on several posts here:

First of all the seals. It is terrible ghow they are being slaughtered!!! Really sad and sick!

But I have also heard the fishermen talking, here in the harbor in Denmark, where we used to live... and they said, that just outside of our harbour we had a plague of seals who whould bite every net open, eat whatever they could and in that way get the eco-system out of ballance.

So I know far too little about it.
The inhumane slaughter has to stop. there is no doubt about it! I am a Greenpeace member as well...
But what do you do when they become too many in one place and then perhaps threaten the other species? No idea, if the fishermen were right or if what they said was just to justify their unethical actions...

Personally I feel that every creature has a right to live, not just the cute and pretty ones and we should do our best in order to keep everything in ballance and as you write: money is usually the driving force and what can be more wrong than greed and the abuse of power?!

Lisa, it is very nice to have met both you and brother Tim over the net and I feel you are both such wonderful people, so warm and good hearted!

On the subject of elderly people:
there are so many things that one could say about that!

The first thing that comes to mind is that when mentally ill people hurt others, it's hardly ever because they are mentally ill. It's because of how they themselves are treated.
Well, I don't know if you read this blog entry:
http://livinginscandinavia.blogspot.com/2009/03/torture-ultimate-taboo.html
What I write about there is also pretty much true for psychiatry.
All psychiatric treatment is destructive and much of it direct torture.
I have lots of first-hand-experience with mentally ill people and those that were dangerous were dangerous because of the incredible painfull and invalidating treatment they had received. This are pretty much NAZI-concentration-camp methods that psychiatists use. Neither
electro-shocks, nor profrontal lobotomy or the drugs that they administrate can cure anything. They do nothing but harm a patient in the most horrific ways. And when you have such a patient amongs other people in an old people's home or in a school for excample (people do wonder about school schootings as well and there we usually find the same cause!)these patients can become a threat, simply because their treatment drives them insane and they can't stand the agony anymore in which they find themselves.

Psychiatry kills - not only those who receive the treatment, but also innocent bystanders!!!

And talking about destructive treatment, here uis soemthing taht i would like verybody to know about, so they never end up falling into the same traop as I did:

Hallo Lisa,

There is a strong relations between the way we behave towards animals and the way we behave towards people who cannot reciprocate.

We are linked together in this.

Be it man or mammal all deserve some sense of compassion.

Selma--Thank you, I could not agree more.
Sarah Sofia Ganborg--First,in terms of HOW the seals are killed, horrific. I can appreciate the fact that some might eat some fisherman's "catch", and that is unfair, but there must be a more humane way of "thinning out" the herd, than the method currently used. How about relocation, or even euthanasia, if it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. But this blood-sport is just cruelty, plain and simple.
Thank you Sofia, for saying I'm in the same league with Brother Tim; he seems like he's "the real deal".
As far as psychiatry goes, I respectfully, and strongly disagree with you. I think the process of analysis and therapy--when led by a good, stable, qualified individual--preferably a doctor--can be one of great enlightenment and a source of strength for the mentally ill, or even someone experiencing temporary problems.
Even electro-"shock" therapy has vastly changed.
I'm sorry that your experiences with the mentally ill have led you to believe that "psychiatry" is the main cause of their suffering. Perhaps their treatment WAS bad, or ill-advised, but I am basing my opinion on what I have seen, first-hand. And I believe most therapy, when judiciously applied, is quite helpful.
I'm curious about the licensing process in Denmark. Perhaps there is not enough oversight?
Just a thought.

Sam--Thank you.Come stop by again!
Georg--Thank you. You know, Einstein said, "You can judge a society by the way it treats its' animals."
Larry--Thank you! I agree.

Don't hold it in, darling, let it out......... tell us what you really think. :)

Darling--Okay, I hope that helped you to vent. Now, be sure you DO channel that energy, and write the Canadian Gov't via the link I provided in the blog! It's important to remember to try to be civil, however, as violence--even in words--often begets more violence(which would undermine our cause of ending the seal slaughter).Peace, woman, and thank you for visiting!
Brother Tim--I hear ya.I think we're all happy that there are folks out there with uh, lots of passion.
Peace, ya'll.
