GINGER MEN
Recovering from a lot of good food, and even better--the great company of family and friends.......
This morning,
I was pretty aggravated, hungry, a bit tired---waiting for my fiancee's apple-sausage-stuffing(you can get chicken/apple or meatfree/apple sausage, which is DELISH!!); fretting about my broiled tomatoes--which my lovely mom- Demetra, actually made FOR me---thick vine-ripes drizzled with extra-virgin, and topped with grated swiss and smoked gouda, and then sprinkled with fresh herbs(they were much better than if I'd made them!)...
I was even frustrated later tonight, as we(my fiancee and I) showed off the location of our upcoming wedding to his family.I kept thinking how I never wanted in my life, to ever marry. That he's the one who wanted marriage, and finally, I thought--- that we're long over-due in doing this.....

Early today, I watched my two almost-nieces(my fiancee's brother's children) and realized what it is we long for when we are adults, that children seem to have in abundance. Patience.
I know every mom and dad out there are shrieking, "What?" and "Children have NO attention-span..." .
Forgive me, but what I saw was patience.
Given the gift of a plate of gingerbread men, hand-decorated by my sweet Mom-- with candy-- their eyes lit up at the thought of eating them, yet BOTH little girls chose to "save" the brown boys for later. After much entreaty, and downright begging, I convinced them that they could eat "a small one" and "save the others to eat later. It's called a compromise," I said.
The older girl was not convinced. She sat, pondering, and gingerly opened the plastic which held the breathless boy inside.Only after her sister reached for him, did she too, reach for the treat. But even as they chewed(gently), they sighed. It was a wish, I think, that they'd waited. That they hadn't "given in".That somehow, enjoying him right now-- right away-- subtracted some of the magic of a gingerbread man.
If only we adults could learn this. That we don't HAVE to have something--even something we think we deserve, right now.
That maybe if we wait for it, it'll taste---even sweeter.....
